TPO/Conservation Area Works Applications

.
Legislation is in place to protect trees of merit or value within our communities. Throughout the country, surveys relating to trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or those situated within a Conservation Area are specialist arboricultural assessments prepared by qualified arboriculturists.

These surveys are typically required before any pruning or tree removal, root disturbance, or construction activity is undertaken near protected trees. The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the tree’s condition, amenity value, and potential risks, while ensuring that any proposed works comply with planning and environmental legislation.

Obtaining  consent from Planning before carrying out work on protected trees is a legal requirement. Unauthorised pruning, damage, or removal of a tree subject to a TPO, or work undertaken within a Conservation Area without the necessary notification or approval, can result in enforcement action and substantial financial penalties. A professionally prepared tree survey helps demonstrate due diligence and ensures that valuable tree assets are appropriately managed and protected.
